Wuthering Heights (1847) follows the turbulent relationships between the Earnshaw and Linton families and the mysterious outsider Heathcliff, who is brought to Wuthering Heights as a child. The story is framed through the narration of Mr. Lockwood, a tenant at nearby Thrushcross Grange, and Nelly Dean, the housekeeper who recounts decades of family history.

At the heart of the novel is the intense, destructive bond between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. Their love—passionate but corrosive—drives Heathcliff into a lifelong quest for vengeance after Catherine chooses to marry the refined Edgar Linton instead of him. Heathcliff’s revenge spans generations, affecting Catherine’s daughter, Cathy Linton, and Hindley Earnshaw’s son, Hareton, until the cycle of cruelty finally begins to break.

The novel blends Gothic atmosphere, psychological depth, and Romantic themes, exploring how love can become obsession and how trauma can echo across families. It is now considered one of the greatest works in English literature.
