The novel follows Mary Lennox, a spoiled and disagreeable 10‑year‑old living in colonial India. After a cholera epidemic kills her parents, she is sent to England to live with her reclusive uncle, Archibald Craven, at Misselthwaite Manor, a large, gloomy estate on the Yorkshire Moors.

At the manor, Mary hears rumours of a walled garden that was locked up ten years earlier after Mrs. Craven died in an accident there. Curious and lonely, Mary begins exploring the grounds. With the help of a friendly robin, she discovers the lost key and the hidden door to the garden. Inside, she finds an overgrown but living space and begins secretly tending it.

As Mary nurtures the garden, she undergoes a profound transformation—becoming kinder, healthier, and more open‑hearted. She befriends Dickon, a nature‑loving boy with an almost magical way with animals, and together they restore the garden.

Mary also discovers her sickly cousin Colin Craven, hidden away in the manor and convinced he is destined to die. Through friendship, fresh air, and the healing magic of the garden, Colin regains his strength and confidence. The garden becomes a symbol of rebirth, healing, and emotional renewal for all three children.

Every effort has been made to ensure all dye has been rinsed but please note that some may remain and may cause bleeding. I always suggest handwash only.
